Now casting: ‘Howling Crane’ (short fiction)
Kirkpatrick & Kinslow is producing a short fiction film titled Howling Crane and is seeking talent to submit for multiple roles in the project.
Written and directed by Will to Win screenwriter Aaron Fulkerson, Howling Crane centers around a teen Cherokee girl who crosses paths with a boy who is on the run, and reluctantly accepts the power to fight back against the man who would destroy them both. The story is set in 1890s rural Oklahoma.
Russ Kirkpatrick is a producer on the project, along with Sydney Alison (co-producer), and Navé FM. The film is scheduled to shoot this spring in northeast Oklahoma.
Breakdowns for each character:
[ABIGAIL - LEAD] - 16-21, female, Native American. Tall, lanky, with a wise-beyond-her-years face. Non-speaking at first but understands Cherokee and English, using Plains Indian Sign Language (PISL). Expressive and fiery, she takes on the role of Will's protector. By the film's end, she speaks both Cherokee and English. $200/day.
[REV. COOK - SUPPORTING] - 35-55, male, white, Protestant minister. A manipulative and dangerous man who hides his sinister nature behind a righteous façade. He pursues Will, fearing exposure for years of abuse. $125/day.
[WILL - SUPPORTING] - 12, male, white. Thin, kind-faces, sickly, with a mild stutter and asthma. Shy and traumatized, he clings to Abigail for protection. Fleeing for his life, he makes a drastic choice that changes him forever. $125/day.
[REDBIRD - SUPPORTING] - 45-65, male, Native American. A Cherokee elder with supernatural healing powers, known as the "Speaker." Dying, he must pass his power to his student, but runs out of time, forcing Abigail to take on the responsibility. $125/day.
